Death and Return
Descent stories approach the border of death from many directions: a sovereign enters the underworld, a seed sleeps beneath soil, a loved one is gathered, or a traveler returns carrying knowledge. Some end in restoration; others insist that every return has a cost. The figures collected here remain rooted in separate cosmologies, and the resemblance of a downward journey does not make those cosmologies interchangeable. Follow the movement from ending to threshold to altered return, with room for grief wherever the old stories refuse a simple triumph.
