Dreaming of death

A death dream can be frightening, but in the language of dreams, death is almost always transformation, not loss. Something is completing — a relationship, an identity, a way of living — and the psyche uses its most final image to say so.

Every mythology keeps a keeper of the dead, and they are less punishers than ferrymen: they carry you across. To dream of death is often to stand at such a crossing, invited to lay something down and continue lighter.

Gods of this dream
Thanatos
the gentle hand that ends the day
Anubis
the jackal who keeps the threshold
Hel
queen of the quiet dead
Osiris
the green lord of the silent land
Mictlantecuhtli
lord of the ninth hell, keeper of bones
Charon
the silent oar across the black water

Dream meanings are reflective, not medical or predictive. If a dream troubles you often, be gentle with yourself — and talk to someone you trust.
