The British Museum reports that more than 30,000 cuneiform tablets and fragments were found in the ruins of Nineveh and grouped under the name Library of Ashurbanipal. The Library of Congress records that its 1815 purchase of Thomas Jefferson's 6,487-volume collection helped replace holdings destroyed in 1814.
