A Mesopotamian cylinder seal in the Metropolitan Museum, dated about 2600–2350 BCE, preserves a so-called banquet scene: seated figures drink through tubes while attendants stand nearby. The object documents an old visual vocabulary of shared drink and service, but the museum's cautious label is a reminder that the scene's precise occasion and meaning are not fully recoverable.
