Tonatiuh

the fifth sun, he who goes shining forth

fire

Tonatiuh is the sun of this present age, who first refused to move across the sky until the other gods gave their lives to set him in motion; to dream of him is to remember that the light you take for granted was bought dearly, and to greet the coming day as a gift.

Fragments

He stared down from the new sky and would not stir, demanding the blood of all who watched, so that even the gods bowed their necks to start the great wheel turning.

At the world's fifth dawn the humble, scabbed little god threw himself into the fire before the proud one dared, and rose blazing while the other followed only as the moon.
