Susanoo

the storm-god, weeper of the raging sea

water

Susanoo wept typhoons and slew the eight-headed serpent to save a maiden; to dream of him is to feel your grief turn to weather, and to learn that the fiercest rage can still guard something tender.

Fragments

He filled eight vats with rice-wine, and when the serpent drank and slept, his blade found in its tail a sword that would crown emperors.

Banished from heaven for his fury, he wandered the rain-dark provinces until he found a family weeping for a daughter promised to the great snake.
