Dreaming of money
Money dreams are rarely about money. Coins, notes, sudden wealth and empty pockets are the dream's shorthand for value: what you are worth, what something costs you, whether you are being fairly exchanged with.
Finding money and losing it are the two great forms, and both tend to be emotional rather than financial. People frequently have abundance dreams during periods of poverty and loss dreams during periods of plenty, because the subject was never the balance.

Money that is not real
Notes that turn out to be worthless or from another country is a dream about misplaced value — effort spent on something that does not count where you are standing. It can be a sharp one to wake from.
Where the myth comes from
Prosperity has gentle gods, which is worth noticing. Lakshmi arrives where there is order and welcome, and leaves where there is not. Ebisu, the only one of the seven lucky gods native to Japan, is a cheerful fisherman who is deaf and misses the annual gathering of the gods, so his festival is held separately for him.
Inari keeps rice, and therefore wealth, and therefore everything — with foxes as messengers. Ọ̀ṣun holds fresh water, honey, gold and love in the same hands. These are not gods of accumulation but of flow: what circulates, what is shared, what arrives when things are in good order.
